Performing International Plays (PIP) is a provider of school workshops, teacher CPDs and learning resources on contemporary international plays. We believe that theatre in translation has the power to communicate global stories from distant parts of the world that matter to young people here and now. PIP workshops are delivered by a team of highly-trained facilitators in partnership with Foreign Affairs theatre company.
Our website includes a selection of 21 plays from 6 continents written in 16 languages by authors from diverse backgrounds published in English translation, which can easily be incorporated into curricular and enrichment activities in Drama, English Literacy and Modern Foreign languages at secondary-school/college level.
PIP emerges from Dr Margherita Laera’s work advocating for more international theatre and drama in translation to be studied and performed in schools and in theatres as a means to foster intercultural understanding and connections. To know more about why we want to encourage more young people to read and perform international drama, read Margherita’s book, Theatre & Translation (Bloomsbury, 2019).
