Adong Judith
Biography:
First Ugandan named Prince Claus Laureate (2018); Adong is also a Women4Women Awardee (2018), TED Fellow (2017) and WHO IS WHO in American Universities and Colleges (2015) among others. She creates captivating plays that provoke and promote dialogues on issues often considered taboo.
Adong wrote her first feature play, Silent Voices, developed at Sundance Theater Lab, after accidentally encountering the inescapable stories of war crime victims in her hometown of Gulu in Northern Uganda; and is published in the Anthology, Contemporary Plays by African Women. Her short, Blood, inspired by Lorraine Hansberry’s Les Blancs, is published in the Anthology, 48Hours in…™Harlem 10-Minute Plays: Volume 2. Both available on Amazon.
Her second feature, Just Me, You and THE SILENCE, developed at the Royal Court Theater London, portrayed the first ever gay couple characters on Ugandan stages. Her other plays are Ga-AD!, Holy Maria, A Time to Celebrate and Subira, her first Musical Theater, the journey of a disillusioned Kenyan soldier on the verge of losing everything.
